The Building and the People
First thing most producers do when they talk about a livestock building is talk about the livestock! You are producers – farmers that care about their animals and want to provide what’s best. These livestock are central to our lives and livelihoods. We know from experience that comfortable animals gain better, have better health, less stress, more calves, more years, etc. But what about YOU?
Summit Livestock takes our relationship with our customers very seriously. We know each operation and every producer’s goals are unique to them. We hear it often – producers all into what the building will do for their livestock. Sometimes, however, it is important to stop for just a minute and consider what that Summit Livestock Facility can do for you!
We incorporate the tenets of sustainability in everything we do; financially, environmentally and socially sustainable. Each of those factors is important to the animals you house and to you as well!
Financial sustainability comes from having a building that works with you. It helps you optimize your production practices and improve return on investment. It helps your animals make better and more efficient use of feed while improving average daily gains. You may have to have less hired help. Perhaps you can raise more livestock per year with the help of the building. That makes many things possible. For some, it’s sending some children to school. Maybe it’s caring for a loved one in a nursing home. Perhaps it’s having the financial security to take a family vacation.
What about your environment? The place you live and work includes your livestock facility. With animals under roof, you have fewer acres to cover on a daily basis. Unlike some pasture environments, you can see your cattle every day to better monitor health and well-being. When animals are safe and comfortable, the same is more likely to be true for those working with and around the animals. Your building helps manage manure with less runoff and leaching – another important aspect of long-term environmental management.
Social sustainability comes from the people you live and work with. It includes the opportunity to work with other family members. Maybe it is bringing your daughter into the operation or including a son and his family. Maybe that’s something that could not happen without the livestock facility. It allows you to pass on generations of experience and tradition to the next generation. Social sustainability includes friends and neighbors. Your sustainability influences your rural community. It impacts the consumers for whom you produce protein.
Beyond buildings, Summit Livestock Facilities provide more than a structure. It is all about providing the equipment, the technology, and the functionality that work together sustainably day after day. A roof over head is one thing, but a building can help make your life easier, better and more productive – on every level.
